A 38-year-old man has been arrested and detained by Punakha police after he was found guilty of sexually assaulting his six-year old step-daughter in their house in Laptsakha, Talo, Punakha during the absence of her mother on July 5.
The suspect had divorced the victim’s mother and they have a 12-year-old son. The 38-year-old suspect from Trashigang had come to Laptsakha to meet his 12-year old son.
On the particular day, the suspect had sent the grandmother of the victim to buy alcohol while his son had gone out to look after the cattle. The suspect was left alone with the victim.
Immediately after he was left alone with the girl, he raped her.
The case was reported to Punakha police but the suspect had already fled the place before the arrival of the police.
The police investigation team found blood stains on the bedsheet and the victim was taken to Punakha hospital for medical examination.
The suspect was later arrested and detained for investigation whereby he confessed to the crime.
The case was charge sheeted on September 1 by Office of Attorney.
Records compiled with Royal Bhutan Police show that year 2016 recorded 68 rape cases of which 39 were rape of a child above 12 years of age while seven were rape of a child below 12 years.
