Lightning kills man

On the evening of April 26, a 43-year old lay man (Gomchen) was killed on the spot when he was struck by lightning near Jangchuling Goenpa, Gangzur Gewog in Lhuentse.

Jangchuling Goenpa is about 29km away from Lhuentse town.

The deceased along with his two friends had gone to collect sang (cypress tree leaves) from Jangchuling Goenpa about five kilometers away from the Yoda Gonpa. When they were collecting the leaves, suddenly there was heavy rainfall. One of the friends of the deceased  stayed in the vehicle while the deceased and the other friend were collecting sang. The friend who was in the vehicle had asked the deceased to move away from the site but he refused while the friend with him walked towards the road.

The deceased took shelter under the cypress tree, when lightning struck him and killed him on spot.

Foul play was ruled out and his death was declared as accidental death after the case was investigated by the police and the Lhuentse hospital.

The body of the deceased was handed over to his wife after the investigation was over. The deceased is survived by his wife and two children who are both studying.

The deceased was from Khaling, Traashigang.
