“Indian Arnold Schwarzenegger” to act in Bhutanese film

Thakur Anoop Singh, known as the Arnold Schwarzenegger of the Indian film industry will make his first debut special appearance in the Bhutanese movie, Singye –The Lion produced by Project Bhutan Entertainment.

The film will be directed by Sonam Dorji popularly known as Casper who is also the writer and editor of the movie.

In fact, Thakur Anoop Singh is the first Indian actor to be featuring in a Bhutanese movie.

Talking to Business Bhutan, he said that he and Mr Bhutan Sangay Tsheltrim became instant friends on the stage when the latter was announced Mr Asia silver medalist while he was announced Mr Asia Bronze at Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

“We raised our flags together and we were in constant touch through Facebook when one day I casually asked him when he was calling me to Bhutan. And this is the outcome today, doing a special appearance in a Bhutanese movie.”

Interestingly, in three days not only did he pick up the Bhutanese accent but he can also speak his dialogues fluently.

Talking about the Bhutanese film industry, he said the standard of Bhutanese films is improving by leaps and bounds and being the first Indian actor to act in a Bhutanese movie, he is not only privileged but also wants to promote his friends.

“Bhutanese films are subject-orientated and have good content; I have watched few scenes of Bhutanese films. However, the movie I am acting is action-based and is commercial which something new for the Bhutanese audience,” he said. “I have suggested them to dub in Nepali and Assamese languages for outreach.”

Besides, he also expressed his gratitude to Bhutanese people who showed their love and respect via social media and personally. “I am overwhelmed and would love to come back again and again,” he said.

Besides acting he is also well known in the world of body building. He won gold during the seventh World Bodybuilding Championship in Thailand in 2015, silver in Mr India and bronze during the 49th Asian championship.

Back in India, Thakur Anoop Singh will shoot his first action hero movie in Telgu, Tamil and Karnataka.

The movie, Singye – The lion is an action packed movie which revolves around the stories three protagonists played by Sangay Tsheltrim, Tshering Yangki and Sonam Tenzin. Sonam Tenzin plays the role of a villain.

The film cast includes veteran actor Gyem Dorji who will play the role of Chief of Police.

Though the film is fictionalized, some events are based on true events, said the director of the film, Sonam Dorji.

“The film is a tribute to our Royal Bhutan police for the heroism and hard work they have put in to curb the issue of drugs in the country. Our team was concerned about the growing issue of drugs in the country and thought why not make a movie on it and pay our tribute,” he said.

He also mentioned that the film is also a tribute to the 50th Indo-Bhutan friendship and the film production involves crew members from India too like the Director of Photography, art director, assistant camera man apart from the Indian actor.

The movie is expected to release in October in three places on the same date in Thimphu, Paro and Phuentsholing.
