A former non-formal education instructor, Damcho Gyeltshen, is one among the six candidates vying for the post of Member of the National Council from Chhukha.
Damcho Gyeltshen,32, from Chimuna in Logchina gewog, has decided to contest with three concepts of enthusiasm, commitment and integrity. He also plans to revise the existing laws to bring best benefits to the people after analysing the impacts that these acts and laws have had on the lives of the people.
“There are laws which need to be revised based on the current trend. So if elected, I will look into those matters along with the other elected members,” he said.
Damcho Gyeltshen also plans to enact more laws considering the cultural and religious aspects of the country.
“There are laws which are conflicting or not in sync with the country’s cultural and religious sentiments. If elected, I along with other members will try to enact new laws favouring them,” he said.
Damcho Gyeltshen also plans to promote socio economic development equally in the country, thus promoting Gross National Happiness across the country, besides having plans to work in close collaboration with other parliamentarians for better performance of the government.
“It’s our responsibility to uphold the constitution and promote national development,’ he said.
With a bachelor’s degree in commerce from Royal Thimphu College, Damcho Gyeltshen has worked as a temporary teacher at Logchina Lower Secondary School and as Administrative Assistant at the Institute of Business Management. He has also worked in the tourism sector.
