DPT third general party convention to be held 

Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT) will be holding a general party convention at the Natural Resources Development Corporation Limited conference hall today. This is its third one after the 2013 elections.

Serving Members of Parliament (MP), former MPs, coordinators, registered members, representatives and supporters from across the country will discuss the party’s status at the meeting.

The meeting will see the election of the party president along with officer bearers, according to the party secretary general, Ugyen Dorji.

Also, the party’s new candidates will be introduced to its members and supporters.

As of now, the party has revealed two new candidates: Phub Tshering from Lamgong – Wangchang constituency in Paro and Nim Gyeltshen from Athang – Thetsho constituency in Wangduephodrang.

Phub Tshering was elected as the Lamgong Gup in 2011 and served as the Dzongkhag Thrizin (chairperson) of Paro Dzongkhag Tshogdu till 2016. He holds a Bachelor’s in Economics Honors from Sherubtse College.

Meanwhile, Nim Gyeltshen has completed BA in Mass Communications & Journalism from St. Joseph’s college in Darjeeling. He worked as a teacher at Kuenga Higher Secondary School in Paro before venturing into business.

Further, a new candidate for the North Thimphu constituency will be declared. The post was left vacant after former MP Kinga Tshering resigned to pursue higher studies at Harvard University.

DPT won a landslide victory of 45 seats in the parliament from 47 during the first general elections. Today, DPT has 14 serving MPs led by Opposition Leader, Dr (Phd), Pema Gyamtsho.
