DNT promises at least three ministers from the east

Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa (DNT) president Lotay Tshering, during his campaign in Kanglung-Samkhar-Udzorong constituency in Trashigang on September 27, pledged to appoint three to five ministers from the east if the party is given a chance to form the government.

“DNT being a new political party, the party has secured the highest votes in the primary round with support from all the people of the country,” said the president.

The president said that during the primary round, except for the Gangzur-Minjey constituency in Lhuentse, DNT lost in all the constituencies of the east. “My biggest worry is having no representation in the cabinet from the east and the country being divided on party lines.” But he added that DNT still sees opportunity to win in the east as huge differences in votes did not exist.

He said that if the people of the east support DNT in the general round, the party will appoint a minimum of three ministers from the east and also set up three new hospitals in the east.

However, the president said that the supporters of PDP and BKP will decide the results of the general elections. “The people should look into the manifestoes of the party, think carefully and decide by voting for the right party.”

He urged people to look into the manifestoes of the party and to decide whether the pledges will benefit them. “Though our pledges will benefit all the people of the country, it will benefit rural people the most.”

Responding to a question from the public on appointing the DNT candidate of Kanglung-Samkhar-Udzorong constituency as a minister if DNT is elected, the president said the past two governments DPT and PDP had a minister from Kanglung-Samkhar-Udzorong constituency and if the people of his constituency supports DNT this time, the candidate will be appointed as a minister.

Additionally, the president said that “since the election is like a football match for every tough opponent we need to have a strong team.”

Meanwhile, the president promised to set up three new hospitals in the east. “If DNT is given a chance to form the government, we will set up three new hospitals in Nganglam in Pemagatshel, Riserboo and Kanglung in Trashigang.”

He said that establishing a new hospital in Kanglung is a must and it will benefit the public since Kanglung is an educational hub and many offices are based in Kanglung.

Lotay Tshering also promised to provide specialist services like endoscopy, ultrasound and blood test in gewogs and to upgrade hospitals in all dzongkhags with specialist services like gynecologist and a surgeon to the Dzongkhag hospitals.

The president also promised to provide allowances matching daily wage rate for women in rural areas during the initial month of childbirth. “We will ensure that the benefits are extended to all the women who give birth so that it contributes to childcare as well as mother’s health.”

He said it is not good to support one political party as it will not benefit anyone in the future. “It is high time for every individual to think for the future of the country and to vote for the best party.”
