Blood samples of the two men involved in the infanticide case in Phuentsholing along with the baby’s have been collected and will be send soon for DNA test.
Meanwhile, the post-mortem report of the newborn who was reportedly thrown down from the fourth floor of a hotel room in Phuentsholing has confirmed that the baby was born alive.
A 34-year old principal, 28-year old teacher and a 24-year old female sweeper of Sertena Primary School in Haa are in police custody in connection to the case.
They are suspected of throwing the newborn baby from the hotel room on the morning of April 15 in Phuentsholing.
The principal is from Chhukha while the teacher and the sweeper are from Haa.
Police on patrol came across the corpse of the baby and the matter was immediately reported to police officials on duty in the office who reached the scene with a medical team from the hospital.
Sources from the police told Business Bhutan that they found blood stains on the walls of the hotel building after which police personnel were deployed to search the two buildings in between which the corpse of the newborn was discovered.
Ten people had checked into the hotel. When the police entered one of the rooms on the first floor, they smelt fresh blood and found clothes washed at odd hours. The woman (sweeper) was taken to the hospital for medical examination and it was confirmed that she had given birth. She also admitted that the deceased was her child.
Circumstantial evidences were found against the three. All of them were found staying in the same room of the hotel. On being interrogated, the two males (principal and teacher) said that they felt pity on the woman and allowed her to stay with them in the same room which was not plausible, according to the police.
The child was born on the first floor while it was thrown out of the fourth. The police said it would not be possible for a woman who had just given birth to a child to walk till the fourth floor with the baby so the prime suspects in the case are the two men.
However, police sources say that the woman has claimed that the father of her child is a cow herder though she has not yet revealed his identity.
As of now, the three involved in the crime have not admitted to it and investigation is still underway.
Sources from the Phuentsholing hospital said that the authorities in consultation with the forensic department of Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital have come to the unanimous conclusion that the woman had given birth to a living baby.
The cause of the death is attributed to head injury as there was active bleeding from the ear. The baby had also suffered skull fracture due to the fall.
