Bhutan Standard Bureau (BSB) has certified only four companies for International Standard Organizations (ISO) certificate so far.
They include Phuentsholing Thromde, Karma Feeds, Bhutan Bitumen Industries Private Limited and Bank of Bhutan (BoB). These companies got certified in 2017.
The Director General of BSB, Sonam Phuntsho said that these companies were certified for meeting the requirement of quality management system as per the ISO 9001: 2015 standard.
“Any organization can be certified if they can meet the requirements of quality standard,” said the DG.
However, the DG said that BoB was certified only for the credit card sections.
The DG said that ISO certification would require a company’s production to be standard and streamlined and take into consideration customers and laws and regulations.
The DG also said that an ISO-certified company would be in better position to enhance customer satisfaction and if there is any risk in the business, the certified company could better address the risk as well as opportunity.
“The certified company would be ahead of other competitors,” said the DG.
The DG mentioned that there is another company has applied for ISO certification and it is in the process of review.
Under the ISO 9001:2015 standard, organizations have to show leadership and commitment to meet customers’ requirements.
The organization also has to show authentic process and planning from beginning till end and the resources and clear standard operating procedures.
The requirement is beneficial for both the customers and companies.
These four companies were ISO certified through one of the projects under United Nations Industrial Development Organizations (UNIDO).
