Bhutan Telecom Limited (BTL) launched three new products for its customers as it observed the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day in Phuentsholing yesterday.

The occasion was graced by information and communications minister Karma Donnen Wangdi.

The first product is the BTTV, a mobile TV application where B-Mobile subscribers can now watch television and multimedia online through their mobile phones. The mobile TV application will also keep customers updated and entertained with news, movies, videos and music when on the move. The application is already on the internet and can be downloaded for both Android and iOS devices.

Once subscribed, customers can enjoy BBTV contents either through their mobile phones or through a web based portal for non-mobile devices. The subscribers have to create a user account and watch the programs through the app.

However, apart from free channels like daily news and other live programs, BTL has also facilitated pre-paid programs like local music videos and movies where users will have access to view after making a payment to BTL.

“We have created a platform for local artists to promote their videos and earn as well,” BTL’s Marketing General Manager, Penjor, said, adding that the subscribers will pay only normal data charges for the free programs.

BTL also launched add on plans for post paid customers and special plans for both post paid and prepaid customers which will be possible through the new system.

The company has also unveiled Business Continuity Plan Document, prepared as a part of the company’s disaster preparedness project for which an additional mobile core is being set up in Bumthang. The project is implemented with financial assistance from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The document is a policy which the staffs should follow during disasters.
